MLO 4; Secondary Culture Other than Hispanic Cultures
4.1 Students describe concepts of culture and use that understanding in their comparison of Hispanic cultures with a second culture other than those.
4.2 Students will analyze and make connections between the perspectives, ways of thinking, behavioral practices, and cultural products of a second culture other than Hispanic cultures.
Description: In addition to the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, the student demonstrates a general knowledge of a sociocultural group other than a Hispanic one or mainstream American culture. The student develops a basic understanding of the ways of thinking (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, philosophies), the behavioral practices (patterns of social interactions) and the cultural products-both tangible and and intangible (for example, art, history, literature, music) - of the second culture.
Courses completed: JAPN 311
Reflection:
To complete MLO 4 and MLO 5, I took JAPN 311. Prior to taking this course I had no path what course to take since we have a variety of options. I decided to take JAPN 311 because it sounded interesting to learn about Social Issues in Japan. The classes, taught by Dr. Dustin Wright, were online through Zoom. During the semester we watched movies which took place during World War II. It was interesting to learn how the lives of the Japanese-Americans changed drastically since 1945 until now(2020). Furthermore, I love topics where Dr. Dustin focused on Social movements and fights for justice. Our assignments were about article review, writing workshop, class discussion(forum) and a short research paper. One of the toughest parts for me in this class was that I didn't really know that much about Japanese culture, and now, I have more experience of foreing countries like Japan, and because of this class, I really hope that one day in the future I will be able to visit Japan! Below I have attached my powerpoint and research paper about “Japanese Emigrants in Peru''.
