Course Narrative:
In the service learning course I have learned how to use what I have learned in class and applied it in the real world. I learned the value of community service by participating within my own community putting in time and effort working and collaborating with a diverse population. I have also learned about working as a team, the importance of communication, and cultural awareness. I did my community service’s practice as an assistant teacher with a group of heritage Spanish students in Monterey Peninsula college. What I loved best about this entire experience was that I have also learned from those who I was helping. The people of the community taught me how to be tolerant, and grateful for all my blessings in life. Another valuable lesson I gained was familiarizing more in depth with the culture in which I dedicated my time. I learned that there are significant differences and similarities in many cultures. This serving learning experience pushed me to do my Capstone project related to students of Spanish heritage. Please take a look at my linguistic biography which helped me while completing my service learning hours.
